Job summary This post is for a substantive appointment of a consultant cardiologist with a special interest in heart failure and cardiac devices. The appointee will be expected to be proficient in the management of heart failure patients, and the implantation and follow-up of patients with cardiac implanted electrical devices. The department provides a regional device and lead extraction service and the appointee will be expected to participate in this, so experience in this area is expected. Main duties of the job This is a new appointment to join a team of four dedicated device and heart failure and eight electrophysiologists who together provide a regional heart rhythm service. There are three heart failure/device nurse specialists. We have two further EP consultant appointments being made imminently. The complex device service is one of the most mature and largest in Europe. An international reputation for research and innovation has kept us at the forefront of new technology adoption. Regional and supra-regional referrals have grown the service and been secured through a wide-ranging education program for our referral base. We offer comprehensive implantation of pacemakers including leadless and CSP, ICDs including SICD and EV ICD, CRTP and D, and monitoring devices. The extraction service serves Cheshire and Merseyside, North Wales and beyond. There is a close working relationship with the cardiac surgical team for the highest risk cases. The CIED follow-up service extends to several thousand patients and embraces remote, alert-based technological advances.
