Director, Translational Research Leader
At GSK, we have bold ambitions for patients, aiming to positively impact the health of 2.5 billion people by the end of the decade. R&D is committed to discovering and delivering transformational vaccines and medicines to prevent and change the course of disease.
Science and technology are coming together in a way they never have before, and we have strong tech-enabled capabilities that allow us to build a deeper understanding of the patient, human biology and disease mechanisms, and transform medical discovery. We are revolutionising the way we do R&D. We’re uniting science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease together.
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Director to lead a team of oncology translational scientists within the Oncology R&D department. The successful candidate will work as part of a broad, cross-functional team that applies translational experimental and computational research to enable cancer patient risk stratification, identify biomarkers and predict future therapeutic susceptibilities.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Leveraging deep expertise in cancer biology and the oncology clinical landscape, represent Oncology Translational Research (OTRO) as a translational lead in cross-functional matrix teams.
* Independently create translational research plans, implemented/delivered through both matrix and line leadership, to address key asset team questions around mechanism, biomarkers (pharmacodynamic, response and/or resistance) and combination/indication expansion opportunities.
* Act as a translational advisor to preclinical project teams to enable early biomarker discovery/evaluation, indication selection, competitive differentiation and enable clinical transition plans.
* Engage with external HCPs/Investigators globally through translational alliances to design and lead efforts for deep profiling of existing clinical cohorts/biobank material that will generate insights to guide future clinical studies.
* Lead and mentor a team of highly skilled translational leads, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that promotes scientific excellence and professional growth.
* Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal Oncology Translational Research teams and with cross-functional partners in disciplines across GSK as well as external partners, to lead the conduct of translational studies and ensure seamless integration of translational research efforts.
* Communicate translational research progress and findings to key stakeholders, including senior leadership and external collaborators, through written reports and presentations and contributing to regulatory documents.
* Must be able to manage multiple projects and workstreams, including assessment of workload and resourcing requirements to deliver the team’s objectives.
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the clinical and translational research landscape in the areas you are representing as a translational leader.
* This role requires strong leadership skills along with deep translational research expertise as it is expected that the person will have decision making accountability for defining what translational work is conducted on the projects/alliances to which they are assigned, as well as the ability to communicate these translational plans in a clear, confident and succinct manner to cross functional matrix teams.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
* PhD or equivalent experience in Life Sciences.
* Considerable experience in translational research, with significant experience in oncology drug research and development.
* Experience of leading translational research in a matrix team environment, with prior exposure to industry drug discovery and clinical development teams.
* Prior demonstration of having cross functional knowledge of cancer biomarker discovery with experience in the use of non-clinical translational experimental approaches as well as reverse translation activities to address key mechanistic and biomarker questions.
* Proven leadership skills with a history of successfully managing and developing high-performing teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
* Demonstrated scientific excellence and deep understanding of cancer biology, as evidenced by publications, research reports, and external presentations.
* Experience in Antibody Drug Conjugate and/or T-cell Engager research and development.
* Experience in molecular and genomic assay technologies and with clinical assay development (e.g. flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, immunoassays).
* Experience in managing research collaborations.
* Strong communication skills to convey complex ideas and concepts to a range of stakeholders.
* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex scientific questions.
* Strong collaboration and partnership skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
* Excellent project management skills with a focus on delivering results.
