Job overview
The Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit is a unique day unit at Stepping Hill Hospital that aims to streamline patient care to provide same day treatment, reducing the need for admissions. Patients are referred to MSDEC through various means including the Emergency Department, GP, Community services, and ambulance service.
MSDEC sees a variety of patients with medical conditions and often has a high turnover of patients; this requires the post holder to be confident in working in a high-pressure environment.
As a registered practitioner, you will work alongside both registered and unregistered staff to deliver an excellent standard of care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for delivering highly skilled nursing care to patients, using a person-centred approach. Effective communication skills should be used when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care given to patients to ensure a high standard.
The post holder is required to demonstrate empathy and compassion when engaging with patients and their families, recognizing and responding effectively to their individual needs. This also means working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide effective treatment and care.
It is the responsibility of the post holder to maintain their NMC registration and work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

The post holder will assist in the admission and discharge processes for patients in line with local procedures.
They will provide support with effective patient admission pathways and effective discharge planning using their clinical skills.
They will proactively engage with patients, relatives, and carers to seek their views and keep them informed about their treatment and care.
Maintain registration and nursing competencies, and comply with NMC code of Professional Conduct.
Flexibility to work within other areas or departments to meet the demands of the trust workforce model and changing service needs is required.
