To Organise and control the testing and monitoring of the site Microbiological requirements, with the aim of ensuring all production meets all customer & regulatory requirements.
Principle Accountabilities:
Safety & Environment
1. Ensure you lead by example, undertaking your role safely, adhering to all site controls and safe working practices, challenging unsafe behaviour and practices of employees and peers.
2. Promote Health & Safety by adhering to and enforcing good practices.
3. Understand the teams impact on the environment and what can be done to reduce this.
4. Checks that laboratory areas are kept clean in accordance with the “clean as you go” policy.
5. Identifies and reports any Safety or Environmental issues to the Hygiene Technologist / Quality Improvement Leader.
6. Ensure PPE is worn correctly at all times, in accordance with site procedures and challenge non-conformance.
7. Understand the risks involved in your area of work and identify gaps within the risk assessments and resolves them methodically based on the risk.
8. Ensures that accidents and near misses are reported in the proper manner.
9. Ensures that all chemicals are stored correctly i.e. ambient / refrigerated as media requires.
Quality
10. Ensure the Microbiological functions adhere to all customer & regulatory standards including GLC standards.
11. Carry out routine testing of Raw Materials including factory waters.
12. Carry out routine assessment of filled finished product to ensure conformance to specification.
13. Carry out routine environmental testing to agreed standards.
14. Monitor environmental conditions by maintaining an effective plant hygiene monitoring system, by examining cleaning regimes to reduce the number of product contamination/deterioration incidents to a minimum.
15. Maintain the micro laboratory equipment and general operation to comply with accreditation systems. Ensuring that any waste is disposed of correctly.
16. Provide additional information and findings to other internal departments to allow improvements to be made to keep product within required specifications.
17. Involve the Quality Supervisor, QIL and/or Technical Manager when decisions are outside provided guidelines.
18. Assist in customer visits when required including 3rd party assessment.
19. Carry out customer complaint investigations regarding micro issues.
20. Deputies of Quality Lead when required.
Cost
21. Control the use of all consumable materials used in the microbiological laboratory, ensuring that all work is not delayed by lack of resource.
22. Continuously strives to improve work practices and identify more efficient ways of working.
23. Ensure sufficient stock of lab equipment and consumables are available and utilised to minimise waste and environmental impact.

24. Contribute to the achievement of OEE by prioritisation of micro testing.
25. Recognise, report and investigate faults / problems to the appropriate person and within the appropriate timeliness.

35. These are the key daily tasks, not a comprehensive list of all tasks undertaken by the job holder. Flexibility is required by the business & this will be agreed with the individual’s line manager.
Role Requirements Essential
36. Have 1 years’ experience in a FMCG food production environment.
37. Be literate and numerate to a level that reports, routine checks and records are completed accurately and legibly.
38. Be able to challenge and explain site hazards which include chemical handling, workplace transport, manual handling etc.
39. Be able to challenge and explain correct PPE usage and storage.
40. Science Based qualification. Ideally A level or above.
41. Have written and verbal communication skills to enable reports to be developed including statistical analysis of data to form KPI information for use in corrective and preventive action.
42. Basic food hygiene training
43. Be competent in all of the major computer packages i.e. Microsoft Office & SAP, as well as the ability to accurately record data and produce reports
Desirable
44. Experience of microbiological testing regimes and knowledge of potential hazards.
45. Experience of laboratory testing procedures & environment
46. Previous experience of continuous improvement techniques.
47. Experience of HACCP and Allergen management
48. SAP & MES experience
49. Internal auditor trained
