Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and skilled arable operator to join The Northumberland estates arable team at Percy Farms on a permanent, full-time basis.
This in-hand arable enterprise based at Alnwick is approximately 1900 hectares with cropping including winter wheat and barley, oilseed rape and spring cereals as a well as a new beef finishing enterprise. Conservation and farming work hand in hand throughout, with an award-winning grey partridge conservation project covering a large area of the farm, in addition the farmland has been entered into conservation schemes such as Mid and Higher tier stewardship and Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI). This, however, does not preclude the use of new technology within the farming enterprise, which utilises GPS systems to ensure operational accuracy, and yield and soil mapping to assist in the accurate application of seed, lime and fertiliser.
The role
The main responsibilities will include operating a new Case Puma 240 and Horsch trailed sprayer and a Claas Lexion 8900 combine harvester. A wide range of general farm tasks using modern machinery are also required throughout the year. The successful candidate will be experienced in these tasks and have a focus on quality of work and attention to detail. PA1, 2, 4 and telehandler certificate will be required in addition to a full UK driving licence and be 21+. Applicants should be enthusiastic about their work, possess excellent communication and teamwork skills, and have a good understanding of farm health and safety.
