Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our hub office sites.
Job Share or other Agile Working Arrangements will be considered although there is a business requirement for coverage on Fridays for this role.

We currently have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Lawyer within the Group Operations & Commercial Legal team.
About this opportunity
Our team delivers legal support across the organisation working alongside the Group Chief Operating Office, People & Places and the Group Payments teams as well as customer-facing business areas. The work is varied, fast-paced and will provide valuable insight into the operations, technology and strategy of the Group!
This role is for an experienced commercial contracts lawyer with a focus on providing specialist legal support for the Group’s procurement and supplier management function, Chief Technology Office and Chief Security Office. You will support commercial transactions where you'll have the chance to be involved with innovative work across all of our key business areas, dealing with everyone from Fintechs, IT hyperscalers and global suppliers.
No two days are the same here! You’ll work on many varied projects including:
* a range of commercial contracts for the procurement of IT and other operational services required by the Group, transitional services in the context of business acquisitions/disposals and intra-group service agreements
* legal issues arising from ongoing supplier relationships including contentious matters, performance issues or risks to operational continuity
* ensure projects align with regulatory requirements
* identify legal risks, thinking about their implications for the Group and provide clear, insightful, solution-focused advice including leading legal briefings for GEC members
* build effective partnerships to understand business priorities and engage cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality legal support
* represent the Legal function at internal governance committees
* understanding training needs for stakeholders and facilitate training initiatives
* manage legal support and budgets, working with business units on resource planning and funding requests
* play an active role in the senior lawyer group, responsible for inspiring, coaching and supporting colleagues (which may include line management)
* Support the team lead to look for opportunities to improve team effectiveness, implement Legal & Secretariat strategic goals and build a strong personal network.
What you'll need
We’re looking for:
* A fully qualified, experienced lawyer with a current practising certificate for a UK jurisdiction or equivalent legal qualification (experience of supporting material outsourcing arrangements in the financial services sector would be beneficial).
* Confidence to lead negotiations with external third parties and commerciality to support stakeholders achieve their strategic aims.
* An enthusiastic approach, readiness to challenge norms, consideration of the broader context, and the ability to offer strategic advice drawing on external insights.
* Possessing outstanding influencing and communication abilities to engage with executives with clarity and impact.
