Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust – Harefield, Greater London
Due to expansion of the team and internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity in the Directorate of Rehabilitation and Therapies. This offers the opportunity for a Band 5 occupational therapist to join our dynamic team at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex, and to develop further clinically, supervising assistants, students, and contributing to key departmental projects.
Harefield Hospital is a relatively small hospital (approx. 168 beds) specializing in treating heart and lung conditions, including heart and lung transplantation, with a friendly open culture situated in a village accessible by public transport, near Uxbridge and Watford, and very close to the M25 and M40. You will receive Outer London Weighting in addition to your salary.
The successful OT will join the OT and multidisciplinary team in working with patients (and their families) with a variety of cardio-thoracic conditions, including the transplant unit. The post holder will be assessing, providing interventions, and managing the discharge of a variety of cardiac and thoracic patients as part of a close MDT. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in a specialist field while utilizing all the core OT assessment and intervention skills, including post-surgical assessment, functional assessment skills, group work (jointly with the arts team), palliative care interventions, and discharge planning skills, with the opportunity to observe and gain experience with interventions in neuro and critical care.
On 1st February 2021, the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals became part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – a truly once-in-a-generation development. Together, we are taking our first steps towards our vision of creating a brand-new centre of excellence, which will be the global leader in the research into and treatment of heart and lung disease in patients from pre-birth to old age. We are developing some exciting plans, and we want you to join us – so come and help to change the shape of healthcare for our heart and lung patients worldwide.
This person will need good organizational and communication skills and the ability to work as a member of a team. There is regular supervision, training, and support from highly skilled senior Occupational Therapists to address learning needs, and you will be expected to work closely with the other members of the MDT. There are excellent opportunities for CPD which team members are encouraged to attend and present at. Please see the job description and personal specification for more details.
