Job summary This role will involve contributing to the overall activity of HIV service, working alongside colleagues in the Opt-out BBV testing and linkage to care team. They will support the development and training of future band 3 HIV Nurse or Health advisor support worker role. They will also work with the wider HIV and blood borne virus team. They will also be working with the HIV MDT and Hepatitis MDT to support services for patients receiving specialist HIV care within the Birmingham Heartlands HIV service. The role entails seeing patients in a variety of settings including hospital, community venues or their own home. Main duties of the job Liaise with laboratory teams at the QEH, BHH and GHH laboratories run by UHBFT but also the UKHSA to get automated lists of all "non-negative" HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C tests including reactive, indeterminate, rejected samples, or requests with no samples received and work to resolve each of these, so that: Reactive results are either confirmed positive or confirmed negative. Individuals with true positives results are prioritised and encouraged to engage with clinical services. Indeterminate results are repeated. Where tests are not done (rejected/or not sent) the patient is informed and offered tests at a variety of clinical or non-clinical settings To independently run phlebotomy lists when required to do these tests and inform patients of results. This may include performing HIV and hepatitis point of care testing or fingerpick BBV testing when venous access is not possible. This may involve visiting individuals in the community, in conjunction with other members of the BBV MDT or community groups to tests individuals not engaging with the service.
