Registered Nurse - Cardiac Centre (Secondment)

The post holder will provide a high standard of nursing care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of patient care. To work closely with the department / ward manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the department / ward environment. To carry out all relevant forms of care under supervision and when proficient demonstrate procedures of care; supervise junior qualified and/or unqualified staff including student nurses whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
Main duties of the job
1. Assess patient care needs and the development and implementation of programmes of patient care and participate in the evaluation of these.
2. To ensure a high standard of nursing care is performed at all times and assist in the review and regular update of these standards.
3. Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to changes in the patient's condition and safety.
4. Adhere to all Trust Policies to maintain professional, clinical and patient safety.
5. Ability to administer oral drugs safely and independently and that they are administered in line with the NMC and Trust Policy guidelines.
6. Be aware of the principles of infection control and the prevention of cross infection in relation to patient care and the clinical environment.
7. To undertake intravenous drug therapy administration following a training programme which will assess the competencies and practical levels required to achieve safe working within the Trust policies and procedures.
8. Care and control of medication and controlled drugs used for patient care, being aware of the systems used for safe administration and the ordering and maintenance of stock.
9. Maintain the Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations (IRMER) and to be aware of radiation protection with regards to staff and patients.
10. To undertake a clinical role including rotational nursing activities within the department i.e. pre-assessment, scrub nurse, recovery nurse and shift co-ordinator.

Job responsibilities
Main responsibilities will include:
1. Rotational cath lab duties: scrub for procedure (pci, ppm, LHC) after completion of relevant training.
2. Recover patients post procedure, including ECG monitoring and escalation of complication.
3. Participate in team meetings and take audit lead role.
4. Running of pre-assessment clinic.
5. Administer IV and CD drugs.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current Registered Nurse with the NMC.
* Degree in Nurse related specialty or working towards.
* Mentorship or teaching qualification.
Knowledge/Experience
* Demonstrates awareness of current changes in the NHS - in particular related to Nursing.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
* Evidence of further education, training and on-going learning.
* Knowledge of clinical effectiveness, research and audit.
Skills
* Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
* Ability to use computers and software such as Word/Excel or the equivalent.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Flexible approach to work.
* Ability to adapt to change.
* Venepuncture.
* Cannulation.
* Competent in the administration of intravenous medication.
