Donald Russell is a quality food business with a rich heritage in butchery based in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.
With three key arms to our business, we have been supplying hotel and restaurants groups in the UK since 1974 including Malmaison, Hotel Du Vin, 63rd, La Relais de Venise and The Goring to name a few. Our trade export arm exports to markets around the world including Europe and Asia, and we have been selling frozen food direct to consumers 30 years. In 2024 we celebrated 50 years in business, launched a new brand, website and TV advertising campaign. So far. This year we have been awarded the Kings Royal Warrant, we have restructured our business, and we are investing in a new ERP system that will be fully implemented in the next few months.
The role
The successful candidate for this new role will have a strong background in Health and Safety with a responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace.
* Use established H&S principles to drive safety improvements and leadership on site. Develop and enforce comprehensive health and safety strategies and plans ensuring full compliance with UK law and regulations.
* Conduct training and presentations on health and safety matters and accident prevention.
* Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations, maintaining all required records.
* Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions and issue recommendations where appropriate.
* Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes and report back.
* Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures to all colleagues irrespective of position within the company.
* Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics as agreed with the Senior Leadership Team.
* Develop excellent relationships across the business encouraging good interdepartmental communication and good collaborative work.
* Regularly reviewing the KPIs functions against agreed targets, put in place remedial action to ensure they are met and make recommendations for change and improvement.
* Liaise with fire alarm contractor for all aspects of fire safety including Alarm, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency lighting and Fire call out procedure.
* Deliver regular training sessions on safety practices and emergency procedures.
Qualifications
* BSc in safety management or relevant field is preferred.
* NEBOSH/IOSH certification is preferred, a minimum of relevant 5 years’ experience in health and safety management, ideally within the food or manufacturing sectors.
