The Governors of this exceptional Grammar School wish to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic teacher of Physics for January 2025. The post is full-time. The ability to teach GCSE and A-level Physics is essential. A strong degree in Physics is sought, although candidates with a degree in a closely related discipline are welcome to apply. This post would suit a newly or recently qualified teacher, for whom extensive support and encouragement will be given, or a more experienced practitioner.
The Science department at WKGS has 12 fully equipped laboratories, all presented and equipped to a high standard. All students study separate Sciences at Key Stage 3 before electing at GCSE to study either AQA separate Sciences or combined Science, following a two-year Key Stage 4 programme. At advanced level, Physics continues to be a popular option and is a highly valued subject by students. A-level students follow the OCR specification where they have twelve 50-minute lessons per fortnight, and classes are usually shared between two teachers.
Students achieve excellent results, with 41% of GCSE Physics students achieving a grade 9 – 7 and 67% of students achieving grades 9 – 6. At A-level, 18% of students achieved an A* grade with 50% of Physics students achieving grades A* – A in 2024.
In addition to ensuring an engaging and valuable curriculum in the classroom, the Physics department is highly committed to offering exceptional learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom, including through an ongoing collaboration with the Ogden Trust. There are numerous additional activities offered and the department runs a variety of trips each year, along with organising visiting speakers, in order to enhance and develop each students’ learning experience.
