This post therefore provides opportunities to experience a diverse range of obstetric and gynaecological services in our busy tertiary unit. There is a three tier rota, with a Senior House Officer (F2, GPST1/2, ST1/2) first on-call and two resident registrars, at least one of whom will always be a senior (ST6/7 or post-CCT Fellow) or Consultant present at all times. Consultant obstetric presence on labour ward is now at 100+ hours and as such supervision is ideal for those at junior registrar level to build upon existing practical skills and decision making. This post may be of particular interest to candidates wishing to gain further experience and work towards their Portfolio Pathway application in O&G. This post could be extended to allow the successful candidate to undertake SITM modules in their area of special interest. We are very pleased that previous holders of this post have gone onto successfully complete their CESR training, within the department, and are confident that we could support others in the same way. Educational supervision will be provided to help facilitate this and Portfolio pathway mentorship will be provided if appropriate. The trust would also consider supporting the successful candidate to pursue a specialty doctor post within the trust if this was their preference when a post becomes available. What youll do Weekly timetabled activities include outpatient clinics and theatres in addition to on call sessions and facilitate progression as per the RCOG speciality training curriculum. Supporting the education of junior trainees would be a key element of this role so applicants, with an interest and experience in this area, are of particular interest to the trust.There is an active practice education department with regular educational sessions including PROMPT and monthly Maternity Quality, Education and Safety, Together (MQUEST) sessions. Participation in clinical governance activities is supported and expected. The department provides undergraduate training for medical students from the University of Southampton and in addition to informal teaching there are opportunities for participation in formal teaching sessions and student mentoring. What were looking forThe ideal candidate will have completed their MRCOG qualification (or be in the process of achieving this) and have experience working as an ST3+ level O&G clinician in the UK. Ability to transport independently between sites would be beneficial in order to attend off site clinical activity. This post is for a full time position although applications for less than full time positions are welcome and will be supported. You will be working on the junior registrar tier of the rota with a view to move up to the senior tier once senior competencies and senior decision making skills can be demonstrated. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists). Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.
