Renishaw’s CMM and Gauging Products Division is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to help develop and maintain a high-speed, high-accuracy automated data acquisition system. This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer with an interest in control and automation.
Our customers rely on our systems and sensors to ensure their parts and assemblies meet the demanding tolerances found in high precision industries from automotive and aeronautics to life sciences and beyond.
Through on-the-job training and experience, the successful candidate will gain knowledge of cutting-edge measurement technologies and will use that knowledge to design innovative control and measurement algorithms in real-time software.
Key duties
1. Develop real-time software to control automated measurement systems and associated sensors to achieve cutting-edge system performance.
2. Help design and architect new and existing software from system to unit level, to meet requirements and specifications.
3. Understand existing algorithms and how they influence system performance and make improvements.
4. Work with multi-disciplinary teams developing new sensors and systems, develop the software and algorithms needed to make best use of them.
5. Conduct design and code reviews and develop unit and integration tests.
6. Write design documentation of a high standard.
7. Liaise with application and product-support engineers to diagnose and fix issues found in the field.
Essential requirements
1. Minimum of 5 years' experience in modern C++.
2. A clear understanding of software design and architecture.
3. A desire to write high-quality software.
4. A genuine interest in developing and using your knowledge to solve problems in an innovative way.
5. The ability to work in a team and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
6. A degree in engineering, computer science or a related discipline.
Desirable requirements
1. Experience of embedded software design.
2. Experience of Git / Azure change and project management systems.
3. Knowledge of unit testing and test-driven development.
4. Multithreaded programming on operating systems, such as QNX.
5. A desire for continuous improvement of processes and practices.
6. Abilities in mathematics.
7. An understanding of electronics and mechanical engineering.
Person specification
The role requires someone who can work well in a team, sharing responsibilities and communicating clearly. Success in the role will require self-motivation, enthusiasm, clear thinking, willingness to own tasks, ability to work quickly and accurately, attention to detail, as well as the ability and willingness to learn.
