Our client is a leading fresh produce business based in the Eastern regions of the UK, majoring in sourcing key fresh produce from East and South Africa for retail and foodservice sectors in the UK and the EU. As a registered freight agent in the UK, they are dedicated to delivering high-quality products to their customers whilst building strong relationships with growers and expanding their customer base across the UK and Europe.
Role Overview
As the business rapidly expands, they are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial/Commercial Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing and managing contracts with growers, negotiating pricing, coordinating freight and logistics, and supporting the company’s expansion efforts both in sourcing more product from across Africa and South America. This can be a hybrid role, combining remote work with on-site presence at their offices in the Eastern regions of the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Grower Engagement and Pricing Negotiation:
* Develop and maintain relationships with key growers in East Africa and then further afield.
* Negotiate competitive pricing with growers to ensure a reliable supply of high-quality produce.
* Establish long-term partnerships with growers to secure sustainable sourcing.
* Contract Management:
* Draft, review, and manage contracts with growers, suppliers, and logistics partners.
* Ensure all agreements are in compliance with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
* Monitor contract performance, ensuring all parties meet their obligations and resolving any issues that may arise.
* Freight and Logistics Coordination:
* Coordinate logistics and freight arrangements for the transportation of fresh produce from East Africa to the UK and the EU.
* Liaise with shipping and freight companies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of products.
* Manage import/export documentation and ensure compliance with international shipping regulations.
* Business Expansion Support:
* Assist in identifying new growth opportunities and potential markets for fresh produce within the UK and the EU.
* Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to support the company’s expansion strategy.
* Provide market insights and analysis to drive decision-making and enhance business growth.
* Stakeholder Management:
* Act as the primary point of contact for growers, suppliers, logistics providers, and other key stakeholders.
* Build strong relationships with internal teams, including procurement, sales, finance, and operations.
Key Skills and Qualifications We Are Keen To See
Proven experience in contract management, preferably within the fresh produce or agricultural sector.
Strong negotiation skills with a track record of successful pricing agreements.
Knowledge of international freight and logistics, especially in the context of fresh produce.
Experience working with growers and suppliers in East Africa is highly desirable.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
