The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Paralegal to join the Legal team, this position works out of our Maidenhead location.
The Senior Paralegal is responsible for providing commercial advice and support to Abbott’s businesses in the Europe Region. The Senior Paralegal is an intermediate individual contributor position on a full-time basis and may require occasional travel within EMEA.
What You’ll Do
1. Supports the business in the achievement of business objectives by communicating advice of the Legal Department and managing legal risks to the corporation.
2. Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and identifies moderately complex legal issues related to assigned matter; proposes alternative solutions.
3. Manages the internal Legal Intake System, which handles all legal requests submitted by the businesses, triages work to Counsels within the Legal Team and tracks metrics.
4. Resolves routine and moderately complex to complex legal matters on projects involving multiple disciplines within the Legal Division and/or multiple functional areas or divisions within Abbott, with minimal supervision.
5. Performs independent analysis of unique problems and proposes solutions to counsels.
6. Provides assistance in drafting and reviewing other types of commercial and supplier contracts, as needed.
7. Develops a thorough understanding of and familiarity with Abbott business, its people, products, markets, facilities, customers, and competitors and uses this knowledge in providing guidance and counsel to Abbott’s business.
8. Educates clients on basics of contracting and use of self-service templates.
9. Assists in managing external counsel across Europe.
10. Reviews databases for new laws relevant to Europe for Europe counsels.
Required Qualifications
1. Law degree or equivalent experience.
2. Prior experience as a paralegal in either private practice and/or in-house.
3. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of standard commercial contracting.
4. Understands terms and forms of contracts; can draft routine or moderately complex documents for review by supervisors; ability to think critically about business objectives during contract drafting; able to assist in follow up negotiations on contract and commercial issues.
5. Expertise in Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat as well as being comfortable with using systems and technologies.
6. Strong process and analytical skills.
7. Excellent time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities while ensuring timely completion and follow up.
8. Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
