The SAF Senior Systems Architect position is suited to a technology expert who will develop and improve our industrial-grade Additive Manufacturing Systems. Taking a full-systems approach, he or she will represent the architecture of our systems to deliver products that fulfill market requirements driven by our Product Management team. A deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software systems is required for this role.
The Senior System Architect role is essential to the successful definition, design, delivery, and support of our industrial-grade Additive Manufacturing Systems. You will drive and encourage the right project initiatives to achieve the business goals and consider factors such as technology scarcity/availability/maturity/costs, etc. Expertise with Design for Manufacturing, Assembly, and Servicing is a must.
This is a deeply analytical role but also requires close engagement and empathy with experts across a broad range of technical and business functions from engineers and operators to product management and sales.
What you will be doing:
System Design (80%):
* Developing the Product Requirements Document (PRD) along with other technical subject matter experts, in response to a Market Requirements Document (MRD) produced by Product Management.
* Exploring a range of technical approaches that could be adopted for new products and/or the improvement of current products.
* Producing details of specifications and outline designs for improvement of current products and development of new products.
* Collaborating closely with subject matter experts across a range of technical areas including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Development, and Process Engineering to optimize technical concepts and solutions.
* Developing, testing, and evaluating theoretical designs.
* Recommending modifications following prototype test results.
* Discussing and solving complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers.
* Making sure a product can be made reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments.
* Planning and designing production processes.
* Driving the identification of alternative suppliers and solutions for existing and new products.
* Actively scanning the market and emerging technology development, including from academia, to identify new opportunities and potential technical threats.
* Advising the business on strategies in response to external developments.
Intellectual Property (10%):
* Development and documentation of new Intellectual Property.
* Assistance in Freedom to Operate analyses.
Must have for this role:
* Engineering Degree or equivalent experience.
* 8+ years of design and development of products involving precision custom mechanical components and the integration of electronics and/or fluidics.
* Completion of at least one product development cycle, from concept through full design and development to successful market introduction and customer support.
* 3 years of experience with manufacturing methods for both rapid prototyping and mass production.
* Experience with DFM, DFA, DFS, DFX.
* Experience with creating and reviewing intellectual property.
Nice to have:
* Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Software Engineering.
* Experience with the development of Additive Manufacturing Hardware Products Technologies.
