Role – Health and Safety Manager (Property & FM Services)
Location: Stockport
Salary: £55k - £65k
Your role as a Health and Safety Manager (Facilities Management)
Our client is a Facilities and Property Management organisation with a team of 15 Facilities Managers managing their own portfolios across the UK. This Health and Safety role is a new position within the business focusing on H&S compliance and processes to support the Facilities Management team.
Your duties and responsibilities as a Health and Safety Manager (FM):
1. Legislation
o Development and implementation of a robust H&S policy and procedure plan for the day-to-day management of a multi-let property management business.
o Act as the first point of contact for guidance in respect to safety, liaising closely with our in-house legal teams on suitability and compliance.
o Support teams in embracing change within the compliance landscape and implement control measures to mitigate risk.
o Stay updated on changes to legislation and government guidance concerning operational risk, including the preparation and issue of H&S Alerts/Bulletins.
o Advise the business on any legislative changes that may affect compliant operations.
2. Safety Management & Monitoring
o Lead the management and relationship with third-party suppliers providing H&S activity across the team and wider business operations.
o Lead the expansion and development of the H&S system and Risk Management platforms, identifying operational improvements that align with company aims.
o Regularly check levels of document compliance across the managed estates, advising teams on ways to improve and mitigate further exposure and risk.
o Conduct ad-hoc and planned inspections of work activity to ensure adherence to company policy, control measures, and RAMS.
o Undertake internal audits on all aspects of safety and compliance, preparing reports for the HoFM where improvements can be achieved.
o Oversee and advise the wider team on supply chain safety management.
o Conduct regular deep-dive investigations to ensure optimum compliance and post-event investigation practices.
o Develop and implement a series of procedures aimed at achieving OHSAS 18001.
o Accompany and support Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) assessments where required.
o Undertake CDM audits in accordance with the audit schedule.
o Identify training requirements across the team and implement a training matrix with a mix of site-based and distance learning initiatives.
o Support the selection process and performance management of the supply chain/partners.
o Assist the Construction Manager with the effective management of H&S issues, accidents, incidents, or non-conformances.
3. Reporting
o Create regular reporting dashboards to display trends in safety and compliance across the business.
o Provide regular updates to the Board on the success of the safety programme and indicate compliance statistics in an easy-to-digest format.
o Identify ways to report on key accidents, incidents, and near misses, analyzing data and providing guidance to the team on ways to mitigate future loss and safety exposure.
o Attend and support meetings with key stakeholders, providing assurance around the management of Health, Safety, and Security best practices.
o Ensure the Health and Safety File for each project is suitable and sufficient prior to handover.
o Write inspection and audit reports, reporting key findings/trends back to the Construction Manager.
To be successful in your role, you should have the following skills and experience:
1. Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
2. Minimum of 5 years experience in a safety management role.
3. NEBOSH Diploma.
4. Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety Legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act.
5. Understanding of building regulations and industry practice.
6. Detailed knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations.
7. A clear understanding of the requirements of maintenance activities and SFG20.
8. A proven track record in writing policies and procedures for rollout across the business.
9. Practically minded.
10. Full driving licence.
11. Good IT skills and experience of working with various HSE systems and portals.
