Gardener - Shrewsbury Summary INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY PLEASE As a Gardener for the National Trust, you’ll be a hands-on member of the garden team, involved in every aspect of gardening at Attingham Park. Responsible for day-to-day maintenance, and the highest standards of horticulture, you’ll also play a vital role in improving the experience of visitors to the garden and wider estate. Working pattern: Monday to Thurs and then working every 4th weekend with the Wednesday and Thursday before the weekend working off. You may be asked to work occasional weekends, bank holidays and evenings. What it's like to work here You’ll be working throughout Attingham Parks’ pleasure grounds with a mile long circular walk surrounded by 2 acres of historic parkland that run alongside the River Tern. Which sits alongside a 2.5 acre walled garden and a 2 acre orchard of over 100 trees of varying varieties. Attingham is a busy vibrant property with visitor numbers in excess of 500,000 annually. You will be part of a close knit team that not only includes the gardens but the whole property who all work together to make Attingham the amazing place it is. You will be working alongside our amazing volunteer team helping to inspire our visitors and connect them not only with Attingham and its landscape but nature and the wider environment to inspire them to bring nature into their own homes. You will also be working at Sunnycroft a suburban villa with a impressive avenue of sequoia trees. Working with a small team of dedicated volunteers you will help to keep the gardens at their beautiful best for our visitors and community groupsClick here for more information about this location What you'll be doing You will be helping keep Attingham and Sunnycrofts horticultural standards at the top of the tree This will involve all aspects of gardening from weeding through to helping establish plants and new beds. This will also include their after care of pruning and thinning alongside other maintenance tasks such as mowing and strimming. You will be part of a team of 5 staff who look after Attinghams grounds along with over eighty Garden volunteers who you will help manage, lead and inspire to move Attinghams pleasure grounds forward as part of a 10 year plan. You will also help support the events team and the other property teams in delivering exciting new projects across the estate. Who we're looking for We'd love to hear from you if you’re: an enthusiastic horticulturist and hands-on gardener, who’s worked with hard landscaping before knowledgeable about plants, with a great eye for detail. experienced with machinery, including tractors, chainsaws, rotary and cylinder mowers, and with some knowledge of maintenance a driver with a full licence able to manage a demanding outdoor role good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people equally confident working within a team, with volunteers or on your own able to keep to time, plan and meet deadlines The package The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart.
