Job Description Job title: Senior Underwriter - Motor Trade Salary: £52,000 Location: Chelmsford PURPOSE OF ROLE: Our client is on the lookout for a Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join their Commercial Lines Team. The role will contribute to the profitable development of the Southern Regions and wider Mid Market Business, by case underwriting new business risks and actively managing existing business portfolios. On their behalf we are searching for someone with a wealth of knowledge and experience in underwriting, with a proven ability to build and develop relationships with brokers. RESPONSIBILITIES: Profitably underwrite bespoke commercial lines motor trade risks within the businesses Insurance’s underwriting criteria, including regular on-site underwriting at broker offices. Manage the collection and delivery motor trade account for the region. Cultivate and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with a designated panel of Mid-Market brokers, serving as their nominated development relationship underwriter for motor trade products. Support the development of their commercial lines account by actively engaging and fostering new and existing relationships with regional brokers. Actively prospect and contribute to team growth targets, focusing on optimising sales and retention. Maintain meticulous documentation using their Insurance’s systems, practices, and procedures. Ensure adherence to all strategy and authority limits in underwriting, referring all cases outside of these parameters. Strive to exceed agreed service levels for both internal and external customers. Stay updated on developments in the commercial lines market, regional broking marketplace, and pertinent legislation and litigation affecting business underwriting. Provide technical assistance, handle referrals, and offer guidance to colleagues as needed. Participate in and undertake any ad-hoc tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the Midlands, North, and Scotland region, as well as the broader commercial motor trade business. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in underwriting and trading commercial motor products. Comprehensive understanding of the broker market. Demonstrated skill in relationship management. Proven track record of achieving and surpassing personal and team objectives. Awareness of market trends and legal/industry developments. Minimum certification of Cert CII; preference for Dip CII or ongoing progress towards it. Established ability in effective trading, including prospecting and optimising both new business and retention. Assertive and decisive approach to underwriting. Exceptional communication skills, adept at effectively promoting the benefits of insurance products and influencing outcomes. Strong problem-solving abilities. Ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively to team objectives.
