General Practitioner for Canalaside Primary Care Network
Primary Care Networks (PCNs) form a key building block of the NHS long-term plan. Bringing general practices together to work at scale has been a policy priority for some years for a range of reasons, including improving the ability of practices to recruit and retain staff; to manage financial and estates pressures; to provide a wider range of services to patients and to more easily integrate with the wider health and care system.
Main duties of the job
As a General Practitioner for the Canalside PCN, you will be working across 7 practices in the network offering additional appointments for patients.
You will have face-to-face, telephone, and video consultations along with occasional home visits with patients and be able to prescribe to treat patient conditions.
You will be able to work independently as well as part of a team by increasing availability for practice appointments.
About us
A Primary Care Network - often shortened as PCN - is a group of GP practices based in a local community. Typically, it consists of between 5 to 10 GP practices covering a patient population of 30,000 to 50,000.
A PCN encourages GP practices within the network to share their expertise and resources, and develop closer partnerships with community health providers, hospitals, mental health trusts, community pharmacy, and voluntary organisations. Our network is called Canalside and currently comprises 7 local practices.
Job responsibilities
The ARRS funding has created an opportunity for a GP who has qualified within the last 2 years to gain some experience working in our supportive and very friendly PCN practices in Canalside.
You will be required to work across 7 practices (7 sites) supporting our practices through the ongoing pressures on primary care.
We are a highly supportive PCN and the practices all work closely within the PCN, understanding the importance of a good work/life balance with an open-door ethos.
To undertake duties governed by the PMS & GMS contract and Objectives of Direct and Local Enhanced Services including:
1. Face-to-face and telephone consultations
2. Patient home visits and nursing home visits
3. Checking and signing repeat prescriptions
4. Administration - dealing with queries, patient test results, referral letters NHS/private, tasks, emails, and other paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner
5. Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate
6. Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well as wider guidance such as that from NICE

Qualifications
* To hold a degree in medicine that is recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC).
* Have completed a two-year foundation course in general training. This will give you practical experience of the job.
* To complete specialist training in general medical practice.
* Complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
* Experience of working in primary care or in general practice.
