The Location:
Boston Place was established in 2013 and provides treatment to private patients in contemporary surroundings. Boston Place performs approximately 300 fresh cycles and 200 frozen cycles per year and offers a full suite of treatment and diagnostic services, whilst specialising in PGT. The clinic is conveniently located adjacent to Marylebone Station in central London. Our state-of-the-art laboratory was purpose-built in 2013 and is equipped with the latest laboratory equipment and monitoring systems that support us in achieving excellent outcome KPI’s. Boston Place also has a 5/5 inspection rating from the HFEA.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. To be a member of Clinical Services Management Team and thereby actively participate in strategy development and decisions about resource allocation and organisational development.
2. To oversee and coordinate the patient journey between the clinic and its satellite services.
3. To ensure all treatments covered by the HFEA license, RQIA, and other regulatory requirements are in full compliance with those requirements.
4. To act as the Accountable Officer for the storage of controlled drugs within the Clinic in accordance with the Home Office license.
5. To ensure adequate staffing and competence in the nursing area within the given financial framework.
6. To follow the developments in the field of nursing services and to identify opportunities for improvement.
7. To manage the nursing area resources, including staff, with a view to achieving the clinic’s objectives.
8. To identify and specify resource needs in the nursing area.
9. To help develop and manage the nursing area budget.
Operations management, compliance management, customer service and support:
1. To develop and maintain systems and processes which ensure that the patients’ experience of the clinic is as good as possible. This involves the patients’ sense of care, control, value and cost in a broad sense.
2. To manage situations in the nursing area not covered by standard operating procedures.
3. To contribute to the holistic approach to patient care that the clinic endeavors to provide.
4. To ensure that all procedures undertaken in the nursing and sonography area are conducted and documented in accordance with the clinics QMS as well as the HFEA Code of Practice and other regulatory requirements.
5. To supervise the work in the nursing area and make sure that it is conducted in accordance with regulatory and the clinic requirements as well as best practice.
6. To take part in the rota of duties and to ensure cover in the nursing area.
7. To ensure adequate maintenance and provision of suitable equipment in the nursing area.
8. To ensure that patients are adequately informed about treatment options, treatment outcomes, and implications.
9. To ensure that patients give informed consent as required by regulatory bodies.
Analysis and reporting:
1. To ensure that clinical documentation and record keeping meet regulatory requirements as well as the clinic needs.
2. To generate statistics for performance monitoring and report them as appropriate.
3. To regularly assess available statistics and clinical information in order to identify opportunities to improve the nursing services of the clinic.
4. To devise action plans based on the analysis of data.
Liaison:
1. To ensure that communication and cooperation with other functional areas as well as The Fertility Partnership is effective.
2. To ensure that information to colleagues, patients, and the general public is accurate and appropriate within the area of responsibility.
3. To actively participate in the work of relevant professional bodies which regulate and set standards in nursing.
4. To build good relationships with suppliers in order to ensure good service and to facilitate participation in trials.
5. To be involved in the planning, review, execution, and reporting of research projects involving the nursing area and to ascertain regulatory compliance.
6. To work with the Quality Manager to ensure that the Quality Management System is updated in the nursing area.
7. To ensure adequate supplies of equipment/drugs/consumable items are maintained within the department.
8. To ensure that all equipment used by clinical staff is maintained and serviced regularly.
People management:
1. To participate in the recruitment of staff to the clinic.
2. To performance manage staff in the nursing area (includes annual appraisals).
3. To ensure that tasks are assigned to competent staff.
4. To ensure that nursing staff members are current with regard to practices and knowledge by providing opportunities for CPD.
5. To regularly hold minuted meetings with the nursing staff.
6. To manage sickness absence or disciplinary procedures within the team.
Supervision and training:
1. To participate in teaching, training, and supervision of fertility nurses, students, and trainees.
2. To actively participate in Patient Information Evenings and to ensure other members of the nursing team are trained to participate in these sessions.
3. To teach non-nursing staff members of the clinic about nursing practices.
Health and safety:
1. To ensure the efficient and safe functioning of all clinical areas.
2. To ensure all health and safety regulations are adhered to.
Confidentiality:
The post holder must maintain confidentiality of information about patients, staff, and other Company business in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. In circumstances where it becomes known that a member of staff has communicated such information to an unauthorised person, that staff member will be liable for dismissal. Moreover, the Data Protection Act 1998 also renders an individual liable for prosecution in the event of unauthorised disclosure of information.
Education and qualifications:
* Educated to degree level or equivalent.
* Registered General Nurse with a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
* NMC Part One registered.
* Evidence of CPD.
Experience and knowledge:
* Experience as a senior nurse.
* Specialist knowledge of fertility or gynaecology treatment delivery.
* Significant post registration development in appropriate areas.
* Ability to produce clear comprehensive reports appropriate to the request of the clinician.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a managerial position within a healthcare setting.
* Experience of project management activities to facilitate major service/operational changes.
* Experience of longer-term planning in a strategic context.
* Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement for decision making when solutions are not obvious.
* Demonstrated ability to performance monitor and take appropriate corrective action to ensure that performance standards are consistently met.
* Experience with managing staff issues.
Skills and abilities:
* Leadership skills to supervise and co-ordinate the treatment team.
* Proven ability to prioritise, manage and organize individual and team workload, accommodating planned and unpredictable work patterns.
* Computer literacy including ability to extract information and produce reports.
* Ability to solve complex problems using analytical skills and applied clinical knowledge/judgement.
* Ability to interpret policy, legislation, regulations, and national codes of practice, advising on the implications of non-compliance, responding to and applying any necessary changes in area of work.
* Ability to design and deliver training sessions/workshops within a brief to sizeable, mixed interest groups or groups with diverse levels of understanding of the subject matter.
* Aware of research methodology to enable participation in departmental and national research trials.
Personal Qualities:

* Aware of clinical and professional changes in management nursing and the skills required to work in these areas.
Desirables:
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in fertility, gynaecology, or midwifery.
* Specialist knowledge of fertility treatment delivery.
* Specialist knowledge of early pregnancy management.
* Hold Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound, specifically holding modules Gynaecology & Early Pregnancy Assessment.
* Formal management qualification.
* Experience of budget management.
* An active awareness of relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice in the fertility area.
Location: TFP Boston Place - Marylebone - London
Salary: Competitive (Depending on experience)
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts will be either 07.00-15.00, 08.00-16.00, or 09.00-17.00
Weekends required at 1:4
