Technician / Fishery Studies
Salary: Up to £23,379 (depending on experience and qualifications)Working Pattern: Full Time (37hrs per week) The Role: Joining a passionate team of lecturers and technical staff, this post offers an exciting opportunity to provide technician and instructional duties within University Centre Sparsholt’s fishery and aquatics provision.
The main requirements of the role will focus on supporting our Aquatic Research and Conservation centre, where we train aquarists of the future. The Facility includes tropical aquaculture systems, research facilities and ornamental marine and freshwater aquaria There will also be occasional opportunities to provide further support within the Salmonid Rearing and Trials Centre, which includes a salmonid hatchery and on-growing unit, lab and fish processing area, and a trials unit with 72 tanks.
In addition to the overseeing the operation of the facilities, the postholder will be contributing to the education of the next generation of aquarists by providing practical instruction and support to our students. For the right candidate there could be additional opportunities for teaching, which may bring with it supplementary salary. The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject, strong practical skills and demonstrable experience in water quality, aquatic husbandry, record keeping and aquatic health monitoring, together with excellent communication skills, a creative and flexible approach and a passion for fish! A current driving licence would be required. This is a full time role. The working pattern may involve some weekend work which can be discussed at interview.
