We're recruiting for a Statistics Lead here at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), to be part of our warm and collaborative Data Improvement Team, within the Data Directorate.
This is an exciting role leading the development of statistical dissemination practices across the Ministry of Justice (MOJ). You'll drive significant, visible change by leading MOJ's statistics development project, working with teams to improve publication practices to better serve users and producers of statistics. You will also lead the development of new tools for statistics dissemination, using digital capabilities to modernise official statistics publication, and oversee the Justice in Numbers platform.
The Data Improvement Team is at the heart of transforming decision-making across the MOJ and the wider Criminal Justice System (CJS), including the Home Office, Police, and Crown Prosecution Service. We are committed to improving justice outcomes through data-driven insights, tackling challenges around data sharing, quality, governance, and literacy. This three-year improvement programme will drive better strategic and operational decisions across the CJS.
This role sits within the Self-Service Analytics team, a key function of the Data Improvement Team. The team is responsible for developing and delivering the MoJ Data and Evidence Dissemination Strategy, which includes determining what data is shared, how it's disseminated, timelines, resources, and driving cultural change for self-service. The team also manages dissemination software, tools, and stakeholder communication, alongside a training programme to upskill MoJ staff in data self-service. Additionally, the team oversees the HMPPS Performance Hub, MoJ's central source for management information, and manages Justice in Numbers, the MoJ's public-facing statistics webpage. The team is also developing the MoJ Evidence Library as part of the MoJ's Evidence Strategy, building Explore Justice, an external portal for accessing MoJ datasets, and developing TopView, a tool for MoJ Directors and the Executive Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Statistics Development Project, collaborating with publication teams to improve statistical outputs.
Manage and develop Justice in Numbers and the wider Justice Data platform.
Work with Justice Digital to explore and develop new methods for presenting and disseminating statistics using the latest technology.
Stay up to date with best practices in statistics dissemination across the Government Statistical Service (GSS) and wider government, and implement these within the department.
