We have an exciting opportunity for a Development Coordinator to join Southampton City Council’s Adult Learning Team. This small team has been supporting adult learners in Southampton for over 15 years. We work with a range of internal and external partners to deliver high quality adult learning activities to assist learners into employment, to encourage community growth and to support learners’ mental and physical health.
This role would suit someone with a teaching background and will involve supporting a range of internal and external subcontractors to develop and maintain quality assurance policies, procedures and guidance across all curriculum areas to ensure provision complies with Southampton City Council, Ofsted and the Education and Skills Funding Agency standards.
The post is permanent, full time (37 hours a week), though part time and job-share will be considered. Occasional evening / weekend work may be required. Support, supervision and training are provided.
What is a Development Coordinator in the Adult Learning Team

This is an interesting and rewarding role where you’ll be making a genuine difference to people’s lives. Using your skills and experience you will:
* Support a range of internal and external subcontractors to develop and maintain quality assurance policies, procedures and guidance across all curriculum areas to ensure provision complies with Ofsted and the Education and Skills Funding Agency standards.
* Lead on auditing teaching and learning, standardisation, self-assessment reporting, tutor handbook and Ofsted inspection.
* Complete an annual Self-assessment Review with subcontractors and the Adult Learning team. Subsequently maintain regular updates of the Quality Improvement Plan and produce reports for managers and Councillors as appropriate.
* Plan and undertake lesson observations and quality audits across all subcontractors including co-ordinating moderation processes.
* Support and deliver training opportunities to build capacity and skills and share locally identified and national best practice to support those in a teaching role.
* Utilise relevant teaching experience to help those in a teaching role to produce learning materials to support different learner abilities and styles.
* Promote equality as an integral part of a role and treat everyone with fairness and dignity.
We Are Looking For Someone With
* Ability to excel at working collaboratively, building effective relationships with a range of independent and voluntary organisations and different council services to deliver ambitious outcomes. You’ll be able to demonstrate effective communication skills, including the ability to challenge and have difficult conversations.
* An understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, and the role of self-assessment and quality improvement within adult education.
* Knowledge of barriers to learning and learner support needs.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and the Prevent duty. Ensuring staff, volunteers and subcontractors complete relevant training and DBS checks.
* Ability to prepare clear concise written communication and present data in an accurate and structured manner.
* Ability to monitor subcontractors to ensure they deliver against targets within their contract value.
* Ability to use various computerised systems, including Word and Excel and to manage online meetings.
* Ability to be flexible and adaptable in approach to work; able to use own initiative and work effectively without direct supervision yet remaining within Service policies and procedures.
