The Role
The position is fixed term for up to 33 months and funded by the EPSRC Hub on the Mathematical and Computational Foundations of AI, titled "Mathematical Foundations of Intelligence: An 'Erlangen Programme' for AI" (EPSRC grant EP/Y028872/1). The position involves collaborating with the PIs and external academic and industry partners on research projects focussed on the mathematical and computational foundations of machine learning. There will of course be time to pursue independent research. The expectation is that the post-holder will use the project to complement their own research, to bolster their research track record and support them in developing their own research ideas and research identity.
This post is fixed term for up to 33 months; funding is available from EPSRC grant EP/Y028872/1 for this duration only and the position must start no later than 1 May, 2026.
The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.
Successful applicants will, ideally, be in post by 1 October 2025.
