Job overview
Are you a dedicated Teacher of DT, an aspiring or existing curriculum leader, keen to work in a dynamic environment and inspire students to love your subject? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you!
The role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a new Lead Teacher/Head of Department of DT to join our DT department from August 2025. KAA are looking for someone who is a skilled and effective teacher of their subject, as well as being reflective and keen to learn and develop. They will be committed to providing quality education and able to work collaboratively with other colleagues to ensure that all students – from Year 7 to Year 13 – receive the best possible experience during their time here.
Our modern building is fortunate to have three DT workshops, a Food Technology room, and a Graphics Studio. Creativity is in our blood, and we place a central value on DT and all Creative and Performing Arts subjects within our curriculum. These subjects bring variety and joy to students’ experience of school, and build knowledge and skills that will serve them well at university and in the workplace.
All students study DT for two hours each week in KS3. They also have an hour of Art each week, with Textiles being delivered by the Art, not DT team (Art is also a very popular and well-resourced subject). At GCSE, we have several groups of Product Design GCSE running each year (AQA), as well as a BTEC Construction course that is increasingly popular. We currently do not deliver A Level Product Design, though are open to introducing it in the future, and do feel that we would have a number of interested students each year.
This opportunity would be perfect for an existing department lead looking for a new challenge, or a talented classroom teacher ready to take the next step.
What you offer
You will be an excellent teacher in your own right, with the potential to coach and develop those around you. You will be knowledgeable about your subject and able to think creatively about how to inspire KAA students with the curriculum. You will be reflective and resilient in the face of setbacks, and be open to making improvements to your own practice and that of your department.
What KAA offers
The successful candidate will be joining a team that is firmly committed to making KAA one of the best academies in the UK. The value of being part of a great team should never be underestimated. Being a member of KAA means you will be joining a supportive and talented group of staff who will invest in your professional development.
