The role includes the administration and supply of medication to prisoners, medicines optimisation, dispensary activities in some sites and providing advice to other colleagues and prisoners within your competency.

You must have sound pharmacy knowledge and demonstrate excellent communication skills. You will need a minimum of NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy services and be a registered pharmacy technician. Main duties of the job
The post holder will, under the guidance of the Specialist Prison Pharmacist, assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and cost effective pharmaceutical service to prisoner (hereafter known as patient) within the prison they are working in. This role will also involve providing medicines optimisation, medicines supply and administration, general health education advice and specialist technical services to the service users and healthcare staff. The post holder will assist with dispensing, supplying or administering medication including controlled drugs. They will support the delivery of medicines management services, primary care, health promotion and education.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
* Appropriate accredited technician checking qualification
Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of medicines optimisation issues
* Pharmacy legal requirements and controlled drug legislation
* Good clinical pharmacy knowledge including terminology
* Computer literate- able to use Word and Excel.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Able to prepare reports and bulletins
* Able to use Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook (or competent to complete) Patient counselling skills
* Has a good understanding of data protection and confidentiality issues
* Ability to work in a complex and challenging environment
* Able to demonstrate a good standard of literacy and numeracy
* Knowledge of pharmacy computer systems.
* Has a good understanding of security issues in relation to the prison environment
* Substance misuse knowledge
