Hours: Full time 35 hours per week
Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office).

Cancer Research UK’s Finance team’s credibility and professionalism in handling £684m in income fundraised by public generosity are essential to the smooth running of our organisation. The Accounts Payable (AP) team play a vital role in the Finance team’s mission by managing our aged credit balance and ensuring the charity’s payments across £692m in expenditure are paid on time.
As an Accounts Payable Executive, you will support the Senior AP/AR Finance Manager in ensuring adherence to and the achievement of AP service level agreements and KPIs. This will involve overseeing and reconciling aged credit and approving AP payments while ensuring AP financial controls are in place and adhered to. Furthermore, you will support the AP Officers in resolving complex queries and issues while providing excellent customer service and training to end-users, requisitioners, and employees across Cancer Research UK.
You will have the opportunity to contribute your knowledge of AP processes to support the continuous improvement of the AP team while also gaining exposure across a range of projects, stakeholders, and teams. If you are an experienced AP professional who has operated within large organisations with strong purchase ledger, supplier, and customer management, we’d love for you to join our mission.
What will I be doing?
1. Overseeing Cancer Research UK’s Aged Credit, ensuring the balance is well managed and payments are made on time.
2. Ensuring the Accounts Payable (AP) bank accounts and Procurement Card Control account are reconciled and cleared monthly.
3. Coordinating day-to-day service levels agreements within the AP Team. This includes:
* Supporting the AP /AR Manager and Senior AP/AR Manager in monitoring, prioritising, and delegating workloads for AP team members.
1. Approving AP payments, which will involve delivering four BACS runs per week, as well as c.20-50 payments in foreign currencies.
2. Ensuring that all AP Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and targets (including Transactions, Payments, and Helpdesk queries) are met.
3. Developing and maintaining processing notes and documentation around best practices for the AP function, ensuring any changes are recorded accurately and promptly.
4. Providing weekly updates to the Senior AP/AR Manager through regular management reporting information (e.g. error logs or data captured through KPI reporting).
5. Delivering training, guidance, development, and support to team members, end-users, requisitioners, and employees raising POs across Cancer Research UK (this will include regular training exercises to address different types of errors identified through error logs).
6. Supporting the team when dealing with a high workload and complex AP query escalations:
* Being the first point of contact for all escalations raised within AP and actively seeking solutions.
* Providing an excellent level of service and support to Cancer Research UK colleagues, suppliers, supporters, and other stakeholders.
7. Overseeing utilities AP processes and invoices across Cancer Research UK’s head offices and c.650 retail stores. This will involve:
* Handling third-party supplier management queries.
* Being the first point of escalation for any issues relating to utilities and reporting back to the Senior AP/AR Manager on a weekly basis.
8. Supporting the AP /AR Manager and AP team in implementing and maintaining strong purchase ledger management and AP financial controls.
9. Supporting the Senior AP/AR Manager and AP team in delivering a range of AP projects.
What skills will I need?
1. Experienced Accounts Payable professional who has operated within busy AP functions handling a high volume of payments in large, complex organisations (c.£75m+ annual turnover/ c.4,000 headcount).
2. Demonstrable understanding of customer and supplier management.
3. Strong purchase ledger management with a continuous improvement mindset and knowledge of AP best practices and controls.
4. Effective time management and organisational skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and set KPIs, while maintaining accurate attention to detail.
5. IT Literate with Excel proficiency - dealt with large, complex data sets with multiple thousands of rows of data and is comfortable using. VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.
6. Strong customer focus with a solutions-driven mindset that ensures effective query resolution.
7. Comfortable delivering training to end-users, requisitioners, and team members.
