Swindon Borough Council are currently seeking a Head of Highways & Transportation. As a key member of the Director of Operations Senior Management Team, you will work closely with colleagues in the Operations Department and engage with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-performing services aligned with the Council's vision, priorities, and pledges. This is a contract position, providing a fantastic opportunity for someone with significant experience in high-level transport and infrastructure management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Providing strategic leadership and management for a portfolio of transport services.
* Developing and implementing a coordinated strategic infrastructure delivery strategy.
* Leading statutory and regulatory activities to maintain a safe, efficient, and effective transport network.
* Ensuring services contribute to Council priorities and pledges, embedding the Council's culture, behaviours, and values.
* Managing and delivering the Council's statutory compliance across Highways and Transportation services.
* Taking strategic responsibility for large revenue, staff budgets, and capital investment programmes.
* Identifying and securing external funding sources to deliver key strategic infrastructure projects.
* Coordinating and managing external consultants and partners effectively.
Job Requirements:
* Experience in leading and managing highways and transportation operations.
* Proficiency in strategic planning and infrastructure delivery.
* Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements in the transport sector.
* Excellent leadership and motivational skills with the ability to develop and inspire teams.
* Significant experience in budget management and financial planning.
* Ability to provide strategic technical advice on highways and transportation issues.
* Strong collaborative skills to work with senior officers, elected members, and external stakeholders.
* Compliance with performance management systems and HR policies.
