We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Science Technician to join our dedicated and supportive Science Department. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for science education and a strong technical background, who is eager to support our dynamic teaching staff and students.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Support: Manage the preparation, maintenance, and safe use of science equipment and materials for lessons, experiments, and practical sessions.
2. Equipment Management: Oversee the ordering, stock control, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and chemicals, ensuring all resources are available when needed.
3. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all science laboratories comply with health and safety regulations, conducting regular checks, risk assessments, and safety audits.
4. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of junior technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth operation within the department.
5. Collaboration with Teaching Staff: Work closely with teachers to understand the requirements of practical lessons and help design, set up, and clean up after experiments.
6. Inventory and Budget Management: Assist with managing departmental budgets and inventory, ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of resources.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
1. A strong background in science, ideally with a qualification in a scientific discipline (BSc or equivalent).
2. Significant experience working as a Science Technician, with proven expertise in managing practical aspects of the science curriculum.
3. Excellent understanding of health and safety procedures and the ability to apply them in a school laboratory setting.
4. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
5. Experience in supervising and mentoring a team, with a collaborative and supportive approach.
6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with staff and students.
7. A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to address challenges efficiently.
