My client is a leading national Contractor specialising in Civil Engineering, Marine and Environmental Projects.
Due to planned growth and numerous project awards around The Capital, they are looking to appoint a Technical Engineer on a permanent basis to support the existing team.
The Technical Engineer ideally should have 3-4 years of design office and site experience and must have full UK working rights.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Provide sound technical and engineering support/advice to the business during all stages of a project (tender, pre-construction, construction, and post-project review).
* Mentor junior members of the Technical Department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Tender stage / During Projects: Provide technical support to other departments including material take-offs, tender site visits, site layout drawings, workshops, liaising with designers (low-medium risk projects), identifying risks and opportunities.
2. Organise Design Reviews for low-medium risk projects.
3. Prepare low-medium risk documents (design briefs, designs, ECI/Feasibility reports, buildability and construction sequences, etc.) and gain approval.
4. Prepare subconsultant Invitation to Tender documents for low-medium risk projects.
5. Brief and manage design consultants as necessary (for both temporary works and permanent works).
6. General: Develop LAWS Standard Temporary Works Designs (to BS5975) - designer and/or checker.
7. Review and approve site teams' use of LAWS Standard TW Designs (CAT0).
8. Provide support to all departments in understanding and complying with Temporary Works and Technical Quality Procedures.
9. Mentor junior members of the Technical Department and provide support to their development.
10. Aid LAWS Senior Management in developing client relationships within key strategic work areas of the LAWS Business Plan, seek new clients, and build upon existing relationships to enhance LAWS strategic market position as an innovative contractor.
11. Visit live projects as required to provide technical and engineering support.
12. Lead by example, encouraging the team to take responsibility for the safety of colleagues, themselves, and clients. Comply with LAWS Health & Safety policy and defined standards and processes when managing and delivering projects, undertaking risk assessments, and reporting incidents, accidents, and near misses where appropriate.
13. Ensure appropriate stages of design development comply with CDM 2015 Regulations (or update thereof).
14. Ensure that environmental and heritage issues are considered at design stages.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
A Technical Engineer in the Technical Department requires a technical engineering background. A Technical Engineer will be responsible for mentoring junior engineers; therefore, good leadership skills along with the ability to set an example by following quality standards are essential.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
* Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (BEng) or equivalent degree with experience of working in civil engineering.
* CSCS Card.
* Valid driving license and willingness to travel throughout the UK.
