An exciting opportunity of a rare full time vacancy has arisen to join the Capital, Estates & Facilities Department at Cardiff & Vale University Health Board as a Healthcare Assist Driver within the Joint Equipment Stores. This post is based at Westpoint Stores depot, Penarth Road.
The Joint Equipment Service team provides equipment to people within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We order, deliver, collect and maintain a wide range of mobility aids to help people live as independently as possible within their own homes.
Equipment is ordered by health care professionals, such as District Nurses, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapists and includes a wide range items from specialist beds and hoists to bathing equipment and seating and walking equipment used by children in schools.
You will be responsible for the collection, delivery and installation (where required) of equipment designed to assist people with disabilities in their own homes. Bulkier items (e.g. profiling beds, hoists etc) would require the post holder to work as a member of a two person team. All requests for delivery/installation are instigated by a clinical team member after an assessment of the clients needs, an order for delivery is then processed by the JES admin team and collected, delivered, installed by an in-house team of which this post would form a part.
Please note that this service operates from 8am – 4pm Monday – Thursday and 8am – 3:30pm on Friday.
The post involves working 37.50 hours per week (Mon-Fri). The successful applicant will require to have previous experience working in a similar capacity, specifically a Store and / or Delivery environment and working with members of the public.
A sound knowledge of the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan regions would be an advantage.
The position is a physically demanding one and you will need to be capable of carrying out a wide range of manual handling activities (lifting, pulling, pushing etc.).
All work schedules are managed with the use of handheld devices so an understanding of mobile technology/apps is essential. The post requires you to operate small commercial vans (under 7.5T) and a clean driving licence is therefore essential.
You will be delivering and entering into vulnerable residents homes and a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check is another essential requirement of the position.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. Welsh and/ or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
A Disclosure Check will be required of the successful candidate.
