We are currently looking for a Regulatory Support Officer to join our Regulatory Support Team within Regulatory Services (covering Environmental Health and some Trading Standards functions).
Our Service
Regulatory Services is a busy front-line service which carries out a wide range of functions within two service areas, Environmental Protection and Farming, Food and Health. Environmental Protection is responsible for the investigation of statutory nuisance complaints, pest and drainage issues, the enforcement of private water supply legislation, and the licensing and enforcement of standards at caravan sites. The service is also responsible for monitoring and controlling air quality, the inspection and permitting of industrial and commercial processes, and the enforcement of the contaminated land regime as well as responding to consultations in relation to licensed premises, planning applications and from the councils Safety Advisory Group. The Farming, Food and Health Services includes the enforcement of food hygiene, safety and standards and workplace health and safety legislation, infectious disease control, the registration of cosmetic procedures and also responds to planning, licensing and Safety Advisory Group consultations.
The Role
The Regulatory Support Team is the hub of the service providing a vital customer service role and deals with a range of contacts from members of the public, other local authorities, agencies, government departments and professional bodies. The team provides a specialist technical, operational and administrative support to the service in a busy and varied environment.
As our Regulatory Support Officer, you will be an initial point of contact for customers, fielding and dealing with complaints. You will occasionally undertake operational/field work both independently and assisting other officers in the service, for example managing low-level cases, installation and retrieval of noise equipment, collection of pool samples and the collection and distribution of the network of diffusion tubes. What you will bring
As our Regulatory Support Officer, you must have good ICT and communication skills, experience in word processing, Excel, databases, and Outlook. Good literacy and numeracy skills are required. You must be able to prioritise your own workload; therefore, good organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail are paramount, as well as the ability to work unsupervised, although support will be given. You will need to respect the need for confidentiality of personal information and have knowledge of data protection. Although knowledge of Regulatory Services is very welcome, training will be provided. You will need to hold a current driving licence as there will be the need to travel to various locations with training in Northallerton but will primarily be based at Mercury House, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4JX.
