Job summary A vacancy has arisen for a Ward Clerk position within the Surgical Planned Admissions Unit.Candidates need to be hard working, efficient, be able to prioritise, work under pressure and possess excellent communication skills. Duties will include liaising with a wide range of hospital staff, patients and relatives both in person and by telephone. Maintaining medical records both on paper and on the computer system. Main duties of the job To work with limited supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a clerical support service to nursing staff at ward level. To display sensitivity and tact in dealing with patients and relatives. To have a responsible outlook in order to cope with the unpredictable nature of ward activity, using prioritizing skills and discretion to organize a daily workload to take account of deadlines and degrees of urgency. Duties would include greeting patients on arrival, booking them in for their surgery, checking results and sending out appointment letters/patient information, answering telephone queries regarding appointments and other duties to support the service provided by the group. The successful candidate will need to be computer literate in order to use our automated appointment system.
