Liberty Speciality Steels currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Instrument Technician to join our team at Brinsworth Strip Mills. As an Instrument Technician you will be required to undertake both reactive and preventative maintenance to a wide range of combustion / instrumentation / control systems in a modern steel production facility.
This will include working independently on faults and developing and implementing solutions as well as monitoring performance, prediction of failures and implementing improvements to increase safety, production output and plant reliability.
You will also assist in the efficient planning and running of the process control function through following routine planned maintenance schedules, quality assurance and the coordination responses to breakdowns.

Requirements of the Instrument Technician
Essential
9. Hold a recognised Electrical / Instrumentation apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent)
10. Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and work with technical data.
Desirable
11. Hold a recognised Electrical / Instrumentation apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent)
12. Previous Instrumentation / Control / Electrical experience of industrial systems
13. Experience of furnace combustion systems, air / gas ratio control, PID control for burner systems and thermocouples. A good working knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation relating to combustion systems would also be advantageous.
14. Experience of a wide range of measurement and instrumentation methods and equipment.
15. Calibration of instrumentation
16. Experience of electronics including fault finding and repair to component level.
17. Experience of PC based systems their associated communications
18. Experience of CCTV and audio communications systems.
19. A knowledge of PLC and SCADA based systems predominantly related to fault finding would be advantageous.
20. Good level of problem-solving awareness.
21. A good understanding and knowledge of Health Safety Legislation with experience of adhering to SWP’s, risk assessments, procedures and permit systems.
22. Experience of written reporting for detailing activities, plant maintenance and reliability.
23. Experience of planning of work schedules and reporting of daily / weekly jobs.
24. Previous use of a variety of computerised maintenance management systems and other computerised tools which are regularly used in a busy Engineering function.
25. Competence in 16th / 17th Edition I.E.T. Wiring Regulations.
26. Experience of working in confined spaces and at heights would be advantageous.
The Role of the Instrument Technician
This Role is a Monday to Friday with a mixture of afternoons, mornings and nights. Average shift is 8 hours.
