Job Description:
At OQC we’re pushing the boundaries of quantum innovation, and bringing in an additional Quantum Research Scientist will help us get there even faster. You’ll help lead scientific research projects that genuinely impact our quantum technology, from design and implementation to data collection and analysis. This is your chance to drive quantum innovation in a hands-on role while working with some of the best like-minded folk in the field.
You’re already a proven scientist - probably at PhD level - who thrives on solving complex, technical challenges and someone who’s shown a creative approach that’s improved quantum systems. You’ll thrive solving challenging technical problems and developing new techniques and advancements in QEC theory and be comfortable collaborating with other scientists and technical teams sharing updates.
As part of a niche team of engineers and scientists working for Jamie Friel (Technology Manager - Quantum Theory), you’ll be actively involved in:
* Developing, maintaining and testing advancements in quantum error correction theory for superconducting circuit-based quantum processors.
* Running algorithm benchmarks, supporting improvements to error rates for other technical teams across the company.
* Simulating processor performance given experimental characteristics and identifying solutions for improvement, including error mitigation/correction and resource estimation for error correction. Feeding results and insights gained back to the wider team.
* Working directly with other technical teams to improve quantum error correction performance.
We’re seeking someone with hands-on experience working on quantum systems, perhaps quantum computing architectures, superconducting resonators or related fields. You’ll have experience carrying out research into Quantum Error Correction, simulating Error Correction ideally for superconducting circuit processors and experience of Python coding for data analysis.
Your ability to communicate complex scientific findings clearly - both in writing and in person - will be as important as your technical skills. You’ll thrive in a collaborative environment, working with others across the business and striving to ensure we hit our commercial and scientific milestones.
A PhD in a related field would be great as this could be a well-established entry role into industry from academia. But if you’ve got proven industry experience too, then we’d especially keen to hear from you.
At OQC, we see a brighter future for all, enabled by quantum. Are you ready to help us build this future?
Please note that if you are NOT a passport holder of the country for the vacancy you might need a work permit. Check our Blog for more information.
