We are looking for a Tax Manager to join our team.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be working in the Tax Team within the Finance / COO office reporting to the Head of Tax.
The Tax function is a key enabling function in Operations. The team provides tax services across the organisation to manage Wellcome's tax affairs and ensure it is compliant with its obligations as well as its charitable tax-exempt status in the UK and the US. Working closely with colleagues in Operations, our advisers and Wellcome partners we are involved in all aspects of Wellcome's activities, which can range from advising on investment portfolio decisions, contributing to internal policies, supporting funding modes for grant recipients and contributors and being part of technological initiatives.
What will I be doing?
The role involves providing tax advice, analysis, and support for Wellcome and its group companies, ensuring efficient, commercial, and tax-compliant decision-making, as well as maintaining tax compliance.
As a Tax Manager, you will:
1. Ensure compliance with UK tax legislation and international activities, managing timely completion of returns and tax payments.
2. Provide tax advice, with senior support, for Wellcome's operations, including UK and international projects related to investments or charitable objectives.
3. Collaborate with external advisers on specific projects and outsourced work streams.
4. Lead and collaborate on work streams to produce timely and effective deliverables for Wellcome.
5. Work with colleagues to assist in process and systems development to implement and accommodate new regulations or changes to tax legislation, ensuring it supports Wellcome's compliance with the tax changes in a timely manner.
6. Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
Is this job for me?
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of direct taxes, have experience in preparing corporation tax computations, provide practical tax advice, and be fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent). They should have the confidence to advise on tax matters and manage priorities effectively to ensure timely submission of tax returns and documents.
We are looking for someone who has:
1. Strong knowledge of direct taxes and is fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent) with experience in preparing corporation tax computations and year-end accounting.
2. Experience in providing tax support and advice to in-house teams or clients, and skilled in identifying and implementing changes in tax legislation and explaining tax matters to colleagues.
3. An interest in advancing tax technology solutions, including AI, and knowledge in charity activities and real estate businesses.
4. Confidence and is self-motivated, able to advise on tax matters and manage priorities to ensure timely completion of tax returns and other documents.
5. An ability to work collegiately within the Tax team and create strong and valuable working relationships both internally and externally.
6. A familiarity with VAT, employment and Stamp Taxes as well as charity tax and real estate tax issues would be beneficial.
