An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our team in the Eye Short Stay within the Eye Unit at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). Eye Short Stay Unit is part of the regional referral centre for Ophthalmology and it is fast paced environment that relies on team working and excellent interpersonal skills. You will join a team of highly skilled and experienced nurses where the work is varied and immensely satisfying, caring for patients who have various levels and causes of visual impairment. The unit offers services for inpatients, day surgeries and eye casualty at night. The unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and offers an out of hours eye casualty service. The ability to work flexibly to include shifts incorporating nights and weekends is essential.

What you’ll do :
• Provide a high standard of individualised care
• Coordinate all aspects of care delivery
• Working with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that treatments are carried out within agreed policies
• To coordinate the arrangements for the successful discharge of patients
What we’re looking for:
In addition to clinical duties you will communicate effectively and share knowledge, skill and expertise with other members of the team as required for the benefit of patients and clients, and to facilitate students of nursing, midwifery and others to develop their competence. Working with the nursing team you will provide supervision both directly and indirectly to members of the team, identifying and supporting their learning needs. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated nurse with an interest in Ophthalmology. You will be given the required training and opportunity for development within the eye unit which will allow you to independently manage patients with acute and chronic eye conditions and pre and postoperative patients.
