Consultant Radiographer - Breast Imaging

Job overview
The post holder will deliver autonomous clinical practice to an equivalent level of a Consultant Radiologist. This will include interpretation of, and reporting of all mammographic and ultrasound imaging of the breast and axilla. The post holder will also be responsible for breast lesion localisations, needle core biopsies and vacuum assisted procedures under stereotactic and ultrasound guidance. They will fulfil the quality standards required by the National Health Breast Screening Programme [NHSBSP] and confirm this by undertaking audit and clinical governance activities.
The post holder will be required to lead, supervise, mentor and develop other Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, and other team members, providing a model of expert practice in terms of knowledge and experience and use clinical research as a basis to extend the scope of practice within the unit. They will act as a source of expert professional advice to medical consultants, other professionals, multi-disciplinary groups, patients and their carers. They will be required to provide cover for the Radiology Breast Consultants duties and clinics in order to ensure the continuity of the service.
They will conduct statistical analysis for compliance with national guidelines. The post holder will plan and organise screening MDT’s, whilst at the MDT they will chair and present data.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of an integrated, responsive and effective Breast Imaging diagnostic service; provide a consultant service and carry out an expert practitioner role, which will involve invasive procedures, interpreting and reporting images, making a diagnosis and recommending further action. They will provide clinical leadership of the team and ensure compliance with national standards.
The post holder will provide a person-centred approach to care and will seek to incorporate the user perspective in future developments; they will bring innovation and influence to enhance the service and improve outcomes for patients. They will be responsible for the progression of the department to meet increasing demands on service provision and new imaging techniques.
They will collaborate with other professional groups across boundaries to provide consultant level clinical leadership.
The post holder will work in tandem with the other Consultant Radiographer and communicate with both the Imaging Services Manager and Breast Imaging Professional Lead concerning issues of service development and training of staff within the unit to ensure effective management of the service.
The post holder will devise and implement a specialist training program to aid continuity of service and succession planning.
They will liaise trust wide with other clinical specialties at all levels and attend relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings providing expertise.

Education and Qualifications
* Diploma of the college of radiographers (DCR) or Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic radiography
* Masters level qualification to include: Mammography Image, Interpretation and Reporting, Breast Clinical Examination, Communication skills, Breast Ultrasound, Breast interventional Techniques and Advanced Practice, Research Methods, MRI Breast Reporting
* HCPC or other relevant professional registration
Experience
* Highly developed specialist knowledge within breast imaging with advanced practitioner experience – minimum of 5 years
* Leadership experience and service development achievement within a breast imaging department
* Experience of facilitating MDTs
Key Skills
* Ability to communicate and relate information concisely to Clinicians and other Health Professionals
* Evidence of advanced clinical skills, and excellent written and presentations skills.
* Ability to manage self and exhibit self-awareness and drive for improvement
