Components and Mechanical Equipment Engineer

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Components and Mechanical Equipment Engineer.
The Components and Mechanical Equipment Engineer will work within cross-functional teams and with the global supply chain to deliver product designs for components within the scope of the role. The role requires that the candidate work to integrate all factors into the design process to define the product definition and supporting information.
The role will work on concept product development all through the product lifecycle and be part of the team with product ownership of assigned scope. This will involve working in developing, iterative and ambiguous environments and it is essential the candidate can handle this stage of the product lifecycle.
We have Engineering roles available in specific component and mechanical equipment teams covering:
* Major Reactor Island Equipment,
* Nuclear Equipment,
* Plant Equipment and Commodity Equipment.
Ideally you have nuclear experience, but professionals from other industries should be encouraged to apply as we are building a diverse team of talent and challenging the norms of the nuclear industry. We are also looking for various levels of expertise and experience, from entry level to experienced, to ensure we can develop a balanced team.
The Components and Mechanical Equipment department are responsible for product development of a large range of components such as reactor pressure vessels, control rod drive mechanisms, steam generators, pumps, valves, pipework, tanks, vessels, core components, filters, strainers, spargers, ion-exchange columns, reverse osmosis tanks and many others.
Transferable skills / knowledge:
* Pressure Vessel/Equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
* Rotary equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
* Thermal equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
* Mechanical design / manufacture knowledge/experience and/or;
* Pipework and valves knowledge/experience and/or;
* General product development knowledge/experience and/or;
* Systems Engineering & Robust Design knowledge/experience and/or;
* REDV development and management knowledge/experience
Role Criteria:
Relevant Product design experience and capability
Product knowledge of equipment and/or products relevant to the Nuclear Industry or other applicable, high integrity industries:
* Pressure Vessel/Equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
* Rotary equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
* Thermal equipment design knowledge/experience and/or;
* Mechanical design / manufacture knowledge/experience and/or;
* Pipework and valves knowledge/experience and/or;
* General product development knowledge/experience and/or;
* Systems Engineering & Robust Design knowledge/experience and/or;
* REDV development and management knowledge/experience
Product Development
* Experience with Concept Generation, Design Evaluations, Calculations, Product Testing and Product Manufacture
* Experience producing reports and calculations supporting product designs and justification.
* Awareness of product structural integrity and assessment methods.
* Understanding and awareness of validation and verification.
Intelligent Customer Capability
* Experience in reviewing technical and commercial bids and making recommendations on supply chain selections.
* Experience working with and visiting suppliers to develop capability and design/manufacturing solutions to meet requirements.
* Experience reviewing/assessing vendor documentation, including calculations and drawings.
* Capable of building good working relationships with the supply chain.
* Experience with generating internal capability (including toolsets) to ensure a clear understanding of the pump designs to back check and accept solutions from manufacturers.
Communication
* Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven capability to convey complex technical issues to a range of audiences, including senior management.
* Capable of presenting technical and safety case arguments, including the compilation of claims, arguments, and evidence in formal documentation.
Planning, Coordination and Teamwork:
* Experience with planning, scheduling, and coordinating your own work and that of others across functional boundaries.
* Experience of leading and mentoring others, assuming a technical lead role over others both internally and externally to the team.
* Ability to handle projects that have a high level of ambiguity, with ability to move forward despite many unknowns on a complex concurrent project.
* Supports the creation of an open, trusting, and welcoming work environment.
Pay and benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £40,000 - £52,500 DOE plus:
* Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
* Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
* Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
* Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.

* Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
* £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
