Job Description:
A specialist school in Skelmersdale is seeking individuals who have experience supporting students in their learning. If you are passionate about supporting young people, especially those who require further development in their learning, then this could be the role for you. The school caters for primary aged children with SEMH (social, emotional and mental health needs), autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
There is some challenging behaviour, so previous experience with de-escalation would be required. The school is smaller than average, with around 50 pupils on roll and small class sizes of 6-12 pupils. As a Teaching Assistant specialising in SEMH, you will be expected to be a reliable, resilient, and supportive presence in the classroom. Previous experience with behaviour management is required for this role. Training in de-escalation techniques, such as Team Teach, is desired but not essential.
The role may involve working 1-1 with certain pupils based on the relationships you form once in the school. This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm, on an ongoing basis. The role is due to begin in September 2024, with a high chance of a permanent position for the right applicant.
The ideal candidate will:
1. Have a strong understanding of safeguarding requirements in schools
2. Have high expectations of student behaviour and clear strategies for working with students with challenging behaviour
3. Have experience of working with children with SEND and SEMH needs
Requirements:
1. Experience working with children (ideally in a school setting) or vulnerable adults with SEND or SEMH needs
2. An understanding of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
3. Strong work ethic and full-time availability
