An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic individuals to join our team in the busy Microbiology department at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield. A number of full-time positions are available (each 37.5 hours per week)., Successful applicants will need to be able to follow standard operating procedures as they will also be required to undertake other laboratory duties which includes the reception and sorting of laboratory specimens and there initial manipulation. The role may also include working with laboratory equipment like autoclaves and centrifuges, as well as managing stock.
Applicants for this position will be highly reliable, trustworthy and be able to work to tight deadlines under pressure. You will be a team worker as well as able to work on your own.
A good, basic level of education is required that demonstrates a good understanding of the English language and a good level of numeracy.
Good verbal and written communication skills are essential along with fast, accurate keyboard skills. An ability to follow instructions, work under pressure and demonstrate good manual dexterity will be an advantage.
You will be required to input patient information onto the Laboratory computer system (iLab) so an understanding of English and keyboard skills are required., The right candidate will have an interest in biological sciences and in working within a large team of healthcare scientists. Experience in a medical microbiology laboratory or closely related discipline would be advantageous, but is not essential; more important is your ability to work well with staff at all levels, contribute effectively to a team and deliver accurate work. Good communications skills are essential and you will have an organised, motivated approach.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly depending on the needs of the service which may include any current extended day/weekend rota and any future integrated shift system/rotation pattern which operates in the Department.
