Consultant in Critical Care – Anaesthetics

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a number of additional consultant anaesthetists for each site to join our existing team of 87 consultant anaesthetists across its Northern and Eastern services.
The department provides anaesthetic services across East, Mid and North Devon. Cover is provided for over 400 theatre lists each week with approximately 70,000 cases per annum receiving anaesthetic care across all sites.
The appointee will join a department lead by cross-site Clinical Director Dr Fiona Martin and Deputy Clinical Director Dr Rob Conway. They are supported by Dr Bruce McCormick in Eastern and Dr Deborah Sanders and Dr Cecily Don in Northern, alongside a cross-site General Manager, Luke Huskison.
Our combined anaesthetics department is friendly, successful and ambitious. It embraces sustainability and was the national winner of the HSJ Towards Net Zero award in 2023.
We can offer regular lists in your preferred specialties and job plans that let you shape your role. With flexibility built into the schedule, you could structure your workweek with 2-3 clinical days, complemented by non-clinical.

This role also includes a generous attraction and retention award, full details of which can be found in the consultant information pack. Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Critical Care at North Devon District Hospital, part of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (Northern Services). The acute hospital in Barnstaple provides a full complement of secondary care services for the local population, including emergency care, cancer services, maternity and paediatric services. Sole ICM applicants and those with dual CCT in other specialties are also invited to apply.
The successful applicant will join the Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain. Critical Care responsibilities include being part of a Critical Care on call rota and providing sessions on the unit. General anaesthetic duties will include theatre lists. Arrangements can be made for single or other dual specialities.
