Opportunity is opening up for the post of Community Support or Youth Worker around the London Boroughs of Ealing/Barnet/Brent/Hammersmith & Fulham/Hillingdon/Hounslow/Kensington & Chelsea. The exact location is Mill Hill near Edgeware.
We receive referrals from all the Councils in North West London (and many more within Greater London) for Supported Living (18-65) or Semi Independent Living (18+) only. The clients shall be a mix of young adults, males and females coming out of care preparing for move into independence, some may be young adults with mild mental health issues, mild learning difficulties, drugs & alcohol issues, refugees, those fleeing domestic violence, etc.
The job description basically involves staff to provide Support (not Care) for the acquisition of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills such as: cooking, washing up, budgeting, cleaning, shopping, personal hygiene, laundry, diet, medication management (if required), attending appointments, rent/service charge payment, form filling, following up correspondence, benefits claims (e.g. Housing Benefits), supporting with education/training, support with Universal Credits, etc.
Therefore, the successful applicant is expected to have some experience of working with this client group as Healthcare Assistant or Support Worker or Youth Worker with relevant training, skills, education, and experiences. We shall also provide our own training.
We shall provide induction/Onboarding and training for the successful candidate. It is essential for the candidate to have trained up to at least NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) in Health and Social Care or equivalent fields, and higher qualifications are desirable.
Successful applicants shall work with the Scheme Manager and Operations Manager to support the clients on a rota system. The staff may be involved in our on-call service.
The type of support given is person-centred as identified needs of the individual. No two persons have the same support needs. These needs are stated in the individual client's Support/Care Plans that the Community Support or Youth Worker or Key Worker uses as a guide for effective and successful service delivery. The role may involve some commuting around hubs/clusters of projects/schemes as the case may be. So the applicant should be ready to be flexible.
