An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled qualified nurse to join the WYICB Safeguarding team as Designated Nurse Safeguarding Children and Children Looked After at Bradford Place.
The post holder will lead the safeguarding children's team within the WY ICB, Bradford PLACE, working a shared agenda, providing line-management for the Deputy Designated Nurses and Named safeguarding GP, and working closely with the Director of Nursing and Quality.
The post holder will be instrumental in working across the Safeguarding Partnership to provide highly skilled leadership, advice, and guidance in relation to Safeguarding Children and Children Looked After.
The Designated Nurse will provide strategic leadership on all aspects of the health service contribution to safeguarding children at Bradford PLACE.
Main Duties of the Job
The Designated Nurse SGC, CLA is an expert and strategic leader for safeguarding and is a vital source of safeguarding advice and expertise for all relevant agencies and other organisations, in particular to health commissioners, ICBs, the local authority, and Children Partnerships (Bradford District and Craven).
The post holder provides safeguarding expertise, support, and advice to the Director of Nursing and Quality. They provide a health advisory role to the Bradford Safeguarding Children’s Partnership (BSCP), attending meetings, fully briefing, and supporting the ICB BSCP executive member.
They provide the lead across the health economy on statutory rapid reviews and commissioning of child safeguarding practice reviews, ensuring that learning for health partners is disseminated and put into practice.
They provide assurance externally to the ICB, safeguarding partnerships, and NHSE that Bradford PLACE is meeting its own statutory functions to safeguard children and children in care.

Job Responsibilities
To fulfil the role of Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children, Children Looked After, and Care Leavers as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and Promoting the Health and Well-being of Looked After Children (DH, 2015).
Be responsible to the Executive lead, seeking to ensure that the PLACE is able to demonstrate that it is discharging all of its responsibilities for safeguarding children, children looked after, and care leavers across the health economy and social care organisations in supporting the wider system.
Be responsible for the provision of highly technical specialist expert advice and support on all aspects of Safeguarding Children, Children Looked After (CLA), and Care Leavers.
Influence the strategic development and planning of Safeguarding Children, Children Looked After, and care leaver services by providing professional advice regarding safeguarding and CLA issues across the whole health economy.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Postgraduate degree in relevant subject at Masters level or equivalent and have significant experience of working at a similar level in a specialist area.
* Registered Nurse.
* Registered Part 3 Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
Experience
* Highly developed specialist knowledge of the safeguarding function, acquired through a combination of in-depth experience and post-graduate/post-registration study at masters or equivalent.
* Significant experience of leading and managing staff.
* Experience of communicating and engaging effectively with external agencies/stakeholders.
* Evidence of ongoing extensive professional development.
* A good understanding and knowledge of the workings of the NHS, ICB (Integrated Care Board), and the challenges it faces and of the reform agenda.
* Experience and ability to review reports on all Safeguarding Children Serious Incidents, providing highly technical and specialist clinical safeguarding advice.
* Experience of teaching and delivering presentations including the development of training packages.
* Experience of contributing to Safeguarding Practice Reviews.
* Demonstrates a sound understanding of and experience in Clinical Governance.
* Knowledge and experience of programme and/or project management.
