The introduction and strengthening of the role of Legacy Mentors is one of NHS England Chief Nursing Officer's High Impact Retention Changes to support those in late career to extend their career whilst supporting those in their early career to retain them.
We are seeking to recruit a band 6 registered neonatal nurse for a two year fixed term/secondment to introduce the role of the legacy mentor. The role will support the journey of new registrants in the neonatal unit at CUH with a focus on experience and knowledge sharing. The legacy mentor role will support students and preceptors with training needs and create a link with practice development.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an experienced neonatal nurse able to coach and provide pastoral support to newly qualified nurses in a level 3 NICU, demonstrating empathy and patience, and be passionate about the profession, supporting the nurses in the learning environment.
This role will be key in supporting colleagues to stay and stay well. The legacy mentor will need to build relationships within the team and demonstrate collaborative working.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current and relevant registration on NMC or HCPC Register
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
* Evidence of relevant continuous professional development
* Relevant postgraduate qualification in neonatal nursing
* Coaching experience and/or Mental Health first aid training
* Qualified Professional Nurse Advocate
Experience
* Able to demonstrate collaborative working across neonatal and children's services
* Significant experience working within a level 2 or 3 neonatal unit
* Experience of delivering education and developing and implementing evidence based practice
* A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it
* Research experience
* Experience of project management, financial management or supporting change management processes
* Experience in communications and stakeholder management
* Previous experience in a similar role in the public sector
Knowledge
* Knowledge of current developments in neonatal and children's nursing & political awareness of current NHS issues
* Able to articulate the evolving vision for the future of nursing and to demonstrate opportunities this can bring to teams.
* Knowledge of career opportunities available to health and social care professionals.
* Knowledge of quality improvement and experience of leading projects and/or implementing new policies across a service
Skills
* Well-developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals
