The post holder would support the Consultants across two wards, Coniston - 18 beds and Grasmere - 15 beds. On average, there are approximately 4 admissions per week to Coniston ward with around 3 discharges. Grasmere ward has about 3 admissions and 2 discharges per week. About 50-75 percent of the admitted patients are detained at any given time, and there is on average one Mental Health Review Tribunal hearing each week. There is 1 Consultant Psychiatrist allocated to each ward.
Each ward also has 1-2 junior trainees. The post holder would be expected to be approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, or be willing to undertake training to obtain Section 12(2) MHA and will be expected to renew this approval according to agreed procedures. Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate clinical teaching and the training of other disciplines is required, along with providing educational supervision of trainees and other disciplines.
