The Adult Autism Keyworker (ND) service sits within the Adult Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental service within Kent Community Health NHS Trust.
The service employs a small team of multi-disciplinary Band 7 and Band 6 specialists including Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language, Mental Health Nurse, and Social Worker. This small clinical team provides line management support, supervision, and professional development to a team of 10 WTE B4 Keyworkers and Peer Support Workers with lived experience.
The clinical team is available to co-work cases as part of the Band 4 workforce development, as well as the requirement to hold a small caseload (3 - 5 active patients per WTE) of more complex patients as required.
The clinical workforce will be required to work directly with core service providers across Kent & Medway to enhance the accessibility and patient experience of core services for adults with autism.
The main focus of this post is to provide psychosocial/psycho-educational post-diagnostic support for autistic adults across Kent and Medway.
Psychosocial interventions should be offered where needs present, and in line with NICE guidance. This may involve:
1. a group-based social learning programme focused on improving social interaction
2. an individually delivered social learning programme for people who find group-based activities difficult.
Senior Speech and Language Therapists within the team will work closely with the people who use our services, families, friends, and carers, playing an important role in how people experience our services.
Senior Speech and Language Therapists are expected to be kind, responsive, and professional, contributing to the quality of the services we provide by:
1. Keeping the people who use our services safe through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
2. Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence-based policies and procedures
3. Ensuring the people that use our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering, and working in partnership with them.
We believe that the best healthcare is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care. Senior Speech and Language Therapists work as part of a team and contribute to its success by being a role model, supervising members of the B4 Autism Keyworker and Autism Peer Support Workers workforce (unregistered), to ensure they are working to the professional standards required and provide leadership within the team.
