Job Description
The Director role is responsible for developing and building the Structured Lending business, and achieving targeted levels of profitability, return on equity and origination. You will lead the origination, structuring and execution of Asset Based Lending (ABL) transactions (sponsor backed, non-sponsor-backed or both) and deliver high quality risk assessment, presentation and mitigation across the full risk spectrum, including credit, operational, reputational and regulatory risk.
Responsibilities:
1. Origination
o Maintain an active network of relationships with SME investors, SME management teams, intermediaries and advisors aligned to the target customer base for ABL lending.
o Act as a key "go-to" point of contact for inbound enquiries and generate new opportunities through targeted outbound activity.
o Filter opportunities to determine their suitability, robustness and fit within our Asset Based Lending risk appetite.
2. Deal Execution
o Structure, negotiate and execute ABL facilities to support the financing needs, acquisition and/or growth of UK SMEs by private equity sponsors or private shareholders.
o Analyse in detail the business and financial models/performance of prospective customers to build an in-depth understanding of their risk profile.
o Structure debt facilities to meet prospective customers' needs and also protect the Bank appropriately.
o Write high-quality sightings and credit papers, which describe the business model, management team, financial performance, collateral, exit strategy, debt structure and key risks in thorough detail, and in a succinct and easily understandable manner.
o Ensure all material risks are identified, minimised and mitigated appropriately.
o Lead the end-to-end deal process including: advisor/management/investor engagement, due diligence scoping and review, financial modelling, credit papers, presentation to Credit, client negotiation and completion of legal documentation.
3. People Engagement
o Drive deal teams for their own transactions.
o Relate effectively to the other parts of the Shawbrook group relevant to any given transaction, e.g. Portfolio, Risk, Operations, Credit, Finance, etc.
4. Regulatory and Compliance
o Report all issues of regulatory concern to the Operations Director / Bank Legal & Compliance Director.
o Communicate and escalate potential issues/risks in a prompt and effective manner.
o Provide support in managing and building out the overall compliance and risk management framework of the Bank.
Qualifications
* Circa 7-years' experience within financial services and circa 4-years' experience in comparable debt transactions.
* Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of ABL structures, collateral types and performance as well as understanding of exit strategies and ABL operational controls.
* Able to demonstrate an established network of relationships with SME investors and intermediaries/advisors aligned to the ABL industry within the Manchester region.
* Deep and demonstrable experience in structuring and executing transactions and risk management.
