About The Role National Grid Electricity Transmission’s (NGET) Innovation team plays a big part in delivering an affordable network that is safe, reliable and resilient, and is critical for decarbonising the UK economy through innovation. We work with innovators and stakeholders through the entire lifecycle of an innovation project, to anticipate the future needs for NGET. As Innovation Engineer, you’ll demonstrate your expertise and enthusiasm for innovation by conducting research and development, delivering innovation projects, and supporting on embedding projects into business as usual. You’ll lead a given innovation technical area to drive value across the business. These areas include: Overhead Lines Undergrounding Technologies Power System Engineering / Electronics Transformers and Switchgear Civils and Construction Methods Protection, Control, Automation and Cyber Security Network Resilience Whole Energy Systems You’ll manage a varied portfolio of works ensuring timely project management and regulatory reporting. You’ll develop business cases to ensure innovation projects are sanctioned. You’ll need to build effective business relationships across the whole industry landscape and promote and drive an innovation culture within NGET. You’ll disseminate learning from innovation at presentations across industry events. You’ll work with the business to ensure innovation is deployed within the business and the benefits of innovation are tracked. You’ll be able to base yourself out of our offices in Warwick and you can combine this with hybrid working from home. What You'll Need We’re particularly interested to hear from you if you have expertise in Power System Engineering or Overhead Lines for this role. With expert knowledge of high voltage environments, and a track record of developing new technology-based products and services, you’ll have experience of researching and developing a range of new technological ideas and performing individual research. You’ll also have experience of analysing the technological landscape and developing ground-breaking, novel ideas to drive the industry forwards to deliver commercial value. You’ll have an overall understanding of electricity transmission and have experience of working with internal stakeholders to implement new products and services into the business to deliver value. In addition, you’ll have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be able to demonstrate project management skills and be proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word. What's in it for you?
